Wrinkles and fine lines are one of the defining signs of ageing. Reduced cell production thins the skin and can leave your once-youthful complexion looking tired and worn. At Blossom Cosmetic Clinic, we are experts in how best to treat and look after your skin, whatever your age or complexion. We offer an array of treatments, including rejuvenating skin peels, microneedling techniques, and the application of AlumierMD’s range of medical-grade products, but today we’re going to focus on dermal fillers, which are a fantastic way to retain a healthy, youthful appearance.
Here are our best dermal filler tips:
1. Consult With Your Dermal Filler Clinician
Our aesthetic clinicians understand how best to use dermal fillers to bring out your natural beauty. Be clear about what you want, and rely on their expertise for the best results.
2. Take Small Steps
Enhance your appearance gradually rather than all at once, as this will enable you to guide the process as it unfolds. Why not take a single step and see how it feels?
3. Avoid Taking NSAIDs Such as Aspirin
The body reacts differently to dermal fillers when on non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, causing excess swelling, bruising, or marks at the injection sites, as well as increasing the time it takes to heal. Your system must be free of these drugs before the treatment, and until healing is complete.
4. Steer Clear of Alcohol When Getting Skin Fillers
Much like NSAIDs, alcohol thins the blood, so your metabolism must be free of it when you receive the treatment. To avoid complications, it’s best to stop drinking at least two days before getting the fillers, and for at least another couple of days afterwards.
5. Say No to The Steam Room
Your skin is going to be sensitive after receiving dermal fillers, making it inadvisable to expose it to high temperatures, which can lead to excessive swelling and bruising. It’s best to avoid spa treatments such as saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, steam rooms, and even hot showers for at least two days after getting fillers. The same goes for intense, direct sunlight.
6. Hold Off on The Big Reveal
Dermal fillers can take a couple of weeks to properly settle, and some people may experience some mild bruising after treatment, which takes a little while to heal, so if you want to show off your new look, we suggest waiting a fortnight before inviting the world around for the reveal.
7. Hands Off!
The injection areas can become infected if touched, or if makeup is applied, which would interfere with the healing process. We recommend avoiding the use of even the lightest cosmetics until all bruising and swelling have gone.
8. Use a Cold Compress
A cold compress can provide comfort and reduce swelling while your skin heals.
9. Be Patient
Remember, it takes up to 14 days for your dermal fillers to ‘settle’, so to get the best results, it’s advisable to avoid facial massages or generally push and pull at your skin. The same goes for intensive scrubbing of the skin. Essentially, your skin just needs time and space to heal.
