Botox: it’s one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments around, with men and women both using treatment to help target lines and wrinkles and create a smoother complexion and more rested appearance. In this post, we’ll talk a bit more about the botox process here in York, so you know what to expect if you’re thinking about treatment. Let’s get into it.
So, what is Botox and how does it work?
It’s an injectable anti-wrinkle treatment that helps to ‘relax’ lines and wrinkles. Botox is actually a name for botulinum toxin, a substance found in plants that, when injected, can help block signals between nerves and muscles. Because our expressions and movements in our faces often cause wrinkles to form, weakening the muscles that form these expressions can make them appear softer and could even prevent them from worsening.
What can Botox treat?
The anti-wrinkle treatment is ideal in areas such as the forehead, brows and around the eyes – all of which are susceptible to wrinkles developing. As we’ve mentioned, it’s also preventative – we’re increasingly seeing younger men and women opting for treatment to help delay the onset of lines and wrinkles.
When do results show?
With Botox, it usually takes a few weeks for results to fully develop. And, with it being injectable, some swelling may occur which can make it difficult to see the results until this settles.
How long do results last?
Anti-wrinkle treatment lasts around 3-6 months but does vary between clients. That’s because different people have different rates of metabolism, which breaks down the substance. To prolong results, you’ll need to have treatment at regular intervals – perhaps every 4 months – though we can discuss this with you during your appointment.
What does treatment involve?
First, we’ll set up a botox consultation at a time to suit you. This helps us get to know each other, and we’ll be able to assess your skin, talk about your concerns and recommend appropriate treatments and timeframes. The procedure itself is an injectable, so you may need a numbing agent to help manage any discomfort.
